About our brand name
The Food Farm Hlohovec ltd. is an agricultural company that penetrated into the market in 1995, which proves its stability. The company, working on vineyard acreage of 240ha, cultivates a large scale of varieties with a production potential of 2000t per year. To accomplish our own wine production we choose raw materials from our best terrain. All of our wines are produced using modern fermentation technologies.
In 2006 the company started its commercial activities in the field of winemaking. Specifically, thanks to processing the grapevine from the high quality vintage of 2006, the first collection of top wines has been produced. At the same time, a considerable investment into wine production meant an accession into the Slovak market in the premium and branded wines sector.
The company FOOD FARM Hlohovec introduced a qualitatively balanced collection of prime wines under a new commercial brand name „ Golguz “. It doesn’t matter if you are a connoisseur or just an occasional consumer of good-quality Slovak wines, we would like to direct your attention to a unique premium wines collection of the new brand name GOLGUZ, from the town of Hlohovec. Golguz is the earliest name of the town of Hlohovec, dated 1113 and of the corresponding, already disappeared, Hlohovec castle.
Why just our wine?
Terroir - Despite Hlohovec’s terrain belonging territorially to the Little Carpathian viticultural area, its vineyards spread out on the East of the Váh river under the southern slopes of the Považský Inovec mountains. Thanks to the sun and the unique soil containing a higher level of calcium typical of this region, both areas are especially good for winemaking. The Váh river is an important donor of energy, protecting a part of the vineyards that spread on its banks against spring and winter freeze. Generous wine varieties cultivated here, thanks to these conditions, bring a high-quality harvest. The resulting wine can surprise by its ripeness and its exceptional taste.
Uniqueness – A harmonious alliance of sun, river and a fertile soil creates a wine brand that you will love the first time you savor it. Its smell, color and taste are connected into a spire which represents the harmony of this region: refreshing lightness, pleasure, and sincerity, but also sad-hearted seriousness. The Golguz is a wine you can not find anywhere else.
History – On the Hlohovec territory they used to finish, more often than not, a light red wine in the style of the Portuguese. In the threshold of the 20th century they started to vineyard and cultivate generous varieties, since the masters winemakers discovered unique natural conditions ideal for production of top varietal and attributive wines.
The year 2006 appeared to be an extraordinary vintage regarding the quality of wine. Prizes awarded to our wines at several nomination exhibitions prove this fact. We consider the biggest achievement the classification of our wines, Alibernet and Dornfelder, among the 100 best Slovak wines at the Slovak National Wine Saloon competition of 2007. It is noteworthy that our Aurelius and Alibernet have also been classified in the top 60 wines of the Little Carpathian Hall of Fame 2007.
